Growing up, Stuart was constantly around the golf course.  His father would take his older brother and sister and him to the golf course to chip, putt, hit balls on the practice hole and even hunt for golf balls for fun.  Eventually, all three ended up working summers at the Truro Golf Club picking up range balls each night which soon evolved into working the entire back shop; cleaning member's clubs, cleaning power carts as well as maintaining the driving range.

Summer's consisted of playing golf in the morning with their father or grandfather followed by work in the back shop.  The job left little time for practice or spending time with friends through the days, but the three still found time for work, golf, tournaments, friends and fun.

Stuart would eventually follow in his brother and sister's footsteps to attend Northwood University, Florida Campus where all three studied Business Administration, majoring in Accounting. All three studied and golfed on academic as well as athletic (golf) scholarships. It was at university where Stuart began refinishing putters as a hobby.

His  interest in refinishing clubs took a turn towards design and wanted to know how a piece of metal could be shaped into a putter. The thought drove him to research many renowned putter designers, craftsmen and artisans.  After discovering how a block of steel could be cut down and shaped into a putter (milling), he began researching even more and knew he had to make his own!

After graduating from Northwood in 2010, he decided to pursue a career in golf qualifying and joining the PGA of Canada.  Stuart's dream of making his own putters was put on hold after graduating, but never ended.  In 2012 Stuart married his wife, Amanda, the two met at the Truro Golf Club in his home town where he is currently the Head Professional and Operations Manager.

Also in 2012, Stuart decided to sell his personal putter collection to pay for his first run of milled putters.  In 2013 Genuine SGC Putters was established as a hobby and business.
